Gary Hetherington was very good the other night and got people thinking and talking about quite a few issues. The report should materialise online within the next decade.

The Giants Cricket Day will be Sunday 13th July at Lascelles Hall Cricket Club [above Waterloo there]. We have offered our services – which have been gladly accepted. This means that we require numerous table-top type games for youngsters to have a go at. Plus some sort of ducking stool/wet sponge throwing game would be good. If you know the location of any such activities, please let me know. There could well be the opportunity for voluntary organisations to run games themselves - FOC!

PLUS we really would like you to help us on the day – setting up the games/gazebos [do you have one?]/tents/car park stewarding/ directing cars etc. This is not just a throw-away request for help, we [ie the club] really do need your help. [You'll get FREE admission if you are helping! There, what an incentive!!]

There have been recent discussions amongst supporters about the best match day for us. Most people agree that, from a personal viewpoint, Sundays are best. But…

So far this season, 5 matches will not be played on a Sunday, and that is without any future Sky changes. The general feeling is that people are not prepared to pay for a season ticket when they do not know when matches will be played.

A solution might be Friday evenings. Even the people who preferred Sundays were not that averse to this suggestion. The advantages being:
1. People would know that the only possible change would be the occasional Thursday evening. If we were on Sky on a Friday, then no change.
2. There seems to be a better atmosphere at evening games.
3. Most people are at work on Friday, so, in effect, Fridays are booked, going out on an evening will make no difference to their plans. Sunday games mean that almost nothing else can be planned – families cannot take their children out on hot, sunny days, etc. The lack of a game on a Sunday frees up the day.
4. People with families say that it would not affect them attending matches with their young children as there is no school on Saturday.
5. Amateur RL players with matches on Sundays would be able to attend.
6. If people did want to watch rugby on a Sunday, they could go to a Championship, or lower, match.

One drawback would be the time away supporters would arrive back home. But would this be more than compensated for by having more season ticket holders?

Friday evenings could become the regular day for Super League – there does seem to be a growing trend towards this.

What do you think?

On Challenge Cup Final Day, we shall be having a members + guests BBQ with an outdoor, large screen. Final details have yet to be worked out, but we are thinking of a charge of about £5 per person [do not be shocked if this turns out to be more once we have done our sums!]. Numbers WILL be limited.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 1st July when Malcolm Lord [former BBC Radio Manchester RL Commentator and now an after dinner speaker] will be our guest.
