Have you ever come across George? George Leatham?

You will know if you have.

I only came across him relatively recently. He was never afraid to express his opinion at HGSA meetings – and express them at length!

I got to know him a little better on out trip to Perpignon. And what an interesting chap he was.

He followed the Giants both home and away, the latter would often involve him staying in a local hotel.

I am using the past tense here because, sadly, George passed away a couple of weeks ago.

Without knowing too many details, I did here that he was found with a glass of gin in his hand. Typical George!

RIP, George, the Giants, HGSA, and those who knew you will most certainly miss you.

On a lighter note, the afternoon session of the Giants Beer Festival at the Greenhead Masonic Lodge was, from a customer's point of view, a huge success.

There was a wide selection of ales being drunk in a convivial atmosphere.

It was an opportunity to chat with the players and coaches present and gain an insight into how they see the season panning out.

Coach Rick Stone was his usual honest self not shirking any of the questions put to him.

Hopefully, the Giants charity, the Forget Me Not Trust, will have benefited greatly from the event.

Well done to Paul Cribb [Commercial Manager] and the rest of the Giants backroom staff for organising this inaugural [hopefully] event.

An update on the Fans Forum on the 17th of January.

The panel so far will consist of Giants MD Richard Thewlis, head coach Rick Stone, Examiner rugby reporter Pete Barrow. A player will be confirmed in the near future. Match day announcer Tim Burton will be our MC for the evening.

Last call for our party night on Friday. Yes, our Reindeer Race Night is almost upon us. A few tickets are still available [£5 including a pie & pea supper]. Contact Helen Newsome on 07889 863816.

Well, we’ve had two tremendously successful events during this past week.

On Tuesday our guest was one of the club’s veteran campaigners, a man who put his head before anything else – in fact he put it into most forwards – yes, you’ve guessed, Luke Robinson.

This year’s raffle was held to not only benefit the development of youth rugby in the town, but also as part of Luke’s Testimonial.

We are waiting with baited breath for Helen to crank up her PC and inform us of the grand total raised.

In the meantime, here are the winning tickets and prize winners picked out by Luke:

1 Catalan Trip—1706—Christian Daly.

2 Giants Season Ticket—1552—Mark Greenwood.

3 Meal for 2 people at Pink Elephant, Honley—2310—Jill Shaw.

4 Ladies Haircut—1498—Janet Blackburn.

5 Gents Haircut—5957—M Halkyard.

6 RL World Magazine Membership—6405—Geoff.

7 Box of Beer—0497—Lewis Ozanne.

8 History of Rugby League—4016—Jack Wilson

9 Four Nations Tickets [courtesy of the RFL]—8039—Chris Farrell.

At the question and answer session, Luke, as usual, expressed his opinions candidly. All bar one, that is.

Turning a bright shade of red, Luke’s reply to one particular questionner was “I love my job too much to answer that one”!

Then on Friday, the reindeer turned out and had a marvellous time frolicking on the sacred turf that is Turnbridge.

The punters had a good time as well.

One of Santa’s little elves, Nathaniel Wood, was a last minute stand-in for the great man himself. His commentary on the races, keeping the excitement level beyond the limit, was exemplary.

The atmosphere in the room really was electric, and it was good to see so many youngsters present making the event a real family occasion.

Thanks to Turnbridge, the organisers, the prize givers, and to all those attending who made the evening such a run-away [gallop-away?] success.

So, Xmas is upon us once again and another new year looms - and that means another Super League season is also on the horizon and with the Giants amazing season ticket offers means that the people of Huddersfield can watch top class Rugby League action for as little as £99 next year, if you haven't got yours yet get a move on, the deadline for these great prices is Xmas Eve !!!

As for us who were there throughout this year it can only be described as (to quote Her Majesty, the Queen) an "annus horribilis" and although we clinched our Super League place without the emotions of the 'million pound game' it was still something i doubt any supporters of Huddersfield would want to go through again, hopefully under the new coaching regime we won't have to.

As for the Supporters Association it's been a pretty good year, we have increased our membership and had some top quality speakers and we had our very successful reindeer race night at the beginning of December.
We have some excellent guests already lined up for 2017 and watch out for details of our pre-season fans forum in January, this one could be the most interesting yet! we hope to see as many of you as possible at those events.

Remember yearly memberships are still only £5 for the year — why not treat someone to one for xmas !!
You can keep in touch with us via our website at www.giantssupporters.co.uk or our Facebook page www.facebook.com/HuddersfieldSA (check out the shirt auction on there!)
On behalf of all the committee members thank you for support throughout the year.

Finally, we would like to wish all our members, fellow supporters and readers a very Happy Christmas.

What a busy month January is turning out to be.

Once all the festivities have died down be prepared for summer rugby with a bang!

Here is a quick run-down of all things Giants:

Tuesday 3rd January, not much notice for this one but the word should spread like wildfire once it is know that our very own Woman Of Steel will be at Turnbridge explaining why, and how, she made a trip to Mount Everest.

Come along and hear what Mrs Jenna "I'm-never-climbing-another-mountain-ever-again" Brough has to say for herself.

It's in front of us ["Oh no it isn't!" "Oh yes it is!"] on the 10th. The Lawrence Batley Theatre will once again be throwing equity cards to the wind and allowing several physical specimens of raw muscle onto the stage.

Who will be performing this year, children?

And what a treat we have in store for you the following week.

The Fantastic Media Suite at the John Smith's Stadium [and we don't get a penny for all this advertising] will play host to our annual Fans' Forum.

What a line up we have.

For those of you who have complained about comments made at HGSA meetings not being made public, Rick, the leader of the Stone Age gang [really, how corny is that!] will take centre stage.

[My proof-reader didn't get this, the date is in front of us – a play on 'it's behind you'. Hmm.]

And for those of you who continually complain about the running of the club, our MD Of Steel, Richard Thewlis, will take centre stage.

Then for those of you who are up in arms about the Examiner's coverage of the Giants, Pete Barrow will take centre stage.

And the players are fighting it out amongst themselves to see who will take the flak for their performances.

As if all that won't be enough action, there will even be a rugby match!

Or at least we are hoping there will be.

Our Head Of Steel will be sending out a team to play against Bradford.

Luke Robinson's testimonial game will be on Sunday 22nd. Kick off at the stadium will be at 3 o'clock.

So those of you - and everyone else – who complain that we never have a pre-season home 'friendly' GET ON DOWN THERE and support both the Giants and our very own Robbo.

How on Earth will February follow all that! [With Super League, of course!]
